“Cats in the Cradle” is a folk-rock song released in 1974 by Harry Chapin on his album Verities & Balderdash. In 1992, American hard rock band Ugly Kid Joe recorded a cover titled “Cats in the Cradle,” dropping the apostrophe, for their debut album America’s Least Wanted. Released as a single in 1993, the cover became the band’s biggest hit, reaching number six on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song also climbed to number three on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart and sold 500,000 copies in the United States, earning a gold certification from the RIAA. Internationally, it topped the charts in Australia for one week and placed within the top five in Iceland, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, and Switzerland, while reaching number seven on the UK Singles Chart.
