Bang Tango are an American hard rock band that erupted out of late-’80s Los Angeles with a sound that fused sleazy glam attitude with funk-driven groove and bass-forward punch. Formed in 1988, they stood apart by weaving in flashes of funk, punk, and psychedelic color—more swagger and swing than standard hair metal.
They hit the mainstream with their debut album Psycho Café (1989), powered by their best-known track “Someone Like You”. With steady rock-radio play and MTV exposure, Bang Tango landed as an off-kilter, groove-first alternative to the era’s more polished glam-metal formula.
Follow-ups like Dancin’ on Coals (1991) and Love After Death (1994) kept the emphasis on thick bass lines, gritty vocals, and streetwise swagger—even as the early ’90s began pulling the spotlight toward heavier, darker sounds.
Onstage, Bang Tango built a reputation for high-energy shows and real musicianship, with funk-influenced bass lines driving much of their identity. Despite lineup changes and downtime, the band has continued to tour and release music in various forms, keeping a loyal cult following intact.
Today, Bang Tango remain a glam-era cult favorite—proof that groove, grit, and a willingness to bend the rules can outlast trends.
